Founded in 1917, Berkeley is a diverse, low-key and reasonably-priced outdoor tennis club in a quiet residential neighborhood, and one of the few with authentic red clay courts.
The six courts are meticulously maintained and open daily from mid-April to the end of October (or beyond), weather permitting. Whether your interest is singles or doubles, tournaments or ladders, clinics or lessons with our resident pro, round robins or pick-up games, there is much to enjoy.
As a nonprofit, member-owned club, rates are reasonable and members work together to make the Club a wonderful experience.
There is no better surface for playing tennis than red clay, and no better club in northern New Jersey for red clay than Berkeley. Red clay forms a soft surface that allows for graceful sliding, which is not possible on hard courts. The clay slows the ball, extending points and bringing out the tactical beauty of tennis.
Located in the heart of Essex County, we are convenient to South Orange, West Orange, Livingston, Maplewood, Millburn, Montclair, Bloomfield and other neighboring towns.
Berkeley is known for its warm and friendly atmosphere. Come play with your own partners or pick up a game on the fly.
Berkeley Tennis Club is sanctioned by the USTA.

"Red Clay, a friendly place to play, what else is there to say...."
- Sharon S.
"Berkeley is my first-ever tennis club, and I can only say I did not know what I’ve been missing. I joined Berkeley at a friend’s suggestion in time for the 2014 season. I was hoping to play more often with experienced players, and maybe meet some nice women to socialize with. It exceeded my expectations by a lot!
"I found myself playing so much more than I thought, mainly because there are so many good and different players to play with. I can’t wait for the season to begin. I find Berkeley to be one of the most pleasant ‘finds” in my 18 years in NJ."
"Since 1917, Berkeley Tennis Club has represented the best in tennis, camaraderie, and community spirit. There are few places that provide professional lessons, regular round-robins, and competitive teams along with an ambiance including great discussions, delicious food, mentoring, and music for its members.
"All this is to a backdrop of six pristine red clay courts fit for a tennis king."
