Berkeley Tennis Club - History

Tennis CourtBerkeley was founded in 1916 by a group of tennis players who broke away from Orange Lawn Tennis Club. The group's leader was Russell Kingman, who later became president of the U.S. and International Lawn Tennis associations. As a teenager, Arthur Ashe played a tournament at the club, and Dick Savitt, the 1951 Wimbledon and Australian Open champion, was a member in his youth.
